So this post is a two-fold reason post:
- Firstly, this woman has a wonderful feminist-y blog. It’s all kinds of empowering and delightful and thought provoking and very high quality. you really should check it out right here.
- Secondly, this is a powerful message, and I agree 100% (as discussed more in a second).
- Thirdly, I’m thinking of blatantly copying her hairstyle because I’m really sick of my long hair and this is just such a….feisty haircut. I spent all of high school worrying about having long enough hair so people would stop calling me a dyke and now I’m just so very, very over it. So I’ll have short hair-if a guy cares that much about my hair and how it relates to my sexuality, I wouldn’t want to be with him anyway. So off with the hair!
Ugh, so accurate. I was telling my dad’s girlfriend the other day, that I want my hair like Katy Perry’s, and when I showed her a picture, she said “It looks a bit too much like a boy’s hair, though.” And all I could think was “You have no idea how much I just DON’T FUCKING CARE!”
What the fuck even is “boy hair” though? Can someone please tell me when hair became sentient enough to gender itself?
I have no idea. I really feel it is appropriate to paraphrase Iggy Pop and say that it’s not boy’s hair, it’s my hair, I’d wear it.
